Letter to my Baby – Gestational Age 28 Weeks

Dear Baby

Well, this week your klutz of a mother did it again. I tripped over a curb and almost landed on you.  Well, that’s a bit of an exaggeration, because I don’t think I actually got anywhere close to you, since I landed very hard on my knee.  And then a few days later I splashed very hot red sauce on my bump! Good thing you’re so well protected in there!

You have been a very good baby this week.  Just last night you kicked Mummy so hard she saw her tummy move and so Daddy came over and you did it again!  Finally kicked Daddy for sure!  Good Baby!!

You are a good baby in other ways as well.  Every time Mummy thinks ‘hmm, haven’t been kicked in awhile’ you kick me.  Its like you can read my mind!  (Daddy says that’s just silly, but what does he know? 🙂 )

Apparently you can now tell which way is up!  And your eyes regularly open and close.  You are about 25cm long and weigh about 1 kilo.

As for Mummy, well heartburn has reared its ugly head over the past week or so.  I have been trying to take Gaviscon, but it makes me really nauseous, so suffering a bit either way.  I have gained a total of 24 pounds, with more to come as you put on more and more weight.  My feet and lower back hurt a lot too.  But I know it will all be worth it.

Because I am so short, I have quite a large bump.  Someone said to me today ‘so any day now?’

Nope.  3 more months.

Can’t wait!

Love

Mummy

Earth Hour – What Crock of Sh**

This rant is copied directly from something I already posted on Mumsnet, with a few modifications.  Just in case it looks familiar to anyone!

So people tell me Earth Hour was ‘a statement’.

But the statement is useless.

As are our attempts to ‘save the planet’. The planet will be here long after we’re all dead and buried. Just like it was here, through earthquakes and meteor hits and Lord only knows what else long before we all started showing up.

For the record, I do recycle. But also for the record, I’ll be using disposable nappies starting in June, for the convenience to me. And the only reason I turn off lights is to save my electric bill, not to save the planet.

What’s going to kill the human race is not lack of clean air or water. Long before that happens, there just won’t be enough room on this rock for all of us. So if you want to ‘save the planet?’ Stop breeding. Which I, personally, am not willing to do.

Are you?

(For more on why Earth Hour is bulls**t, read this.  Its very good.  And a bit eye opening, for the people who think their statement did anything yesterday.  Too bad they aren’t the ones who will read it.)

Superklutz Strikes Again!!

This time I managed to slop red sauce out of the pot of meatballs onto my bump.  Not too bad of a burn, luckily, mostly scared me and Simon.  Lots of splashing of water occurred!

Simon is buying me an apron today.  Kinda like lock the barn after the cow, but maybe it will prevent future accidents!

I mean, I’ve always been a bit of a klutz, despite my years of ballet training.  In fact, you’ll find that a lot of dancers are pretty clumsy when outside the studio.  Why do you think dance studios are wide open rooms? 🙂

I once even finished a dance class and promptly walked right into the door jam as I was leaving the studio.  I still smile when I think of my teacher laughing his ass of at that one!

Anyway, the addition of what is now 24 pounds of baby, fluid etc and the larger bit sticking out in front is really affecting my balance.

Hopefully the new shoes will help!  And I do agree with Hazel’s comment below…they are funky!!

Shoe Shopping Was a Success!!

Got these and this.  Not the most sexy shoes I’ve ever bought, but they are comfy!

The interesting part was that my feet have gone up a size.  I knew this could happen during pregnancy, but all my old shoes still fit, so I’m a bit perplexed!

And today was a really good customer service day.  I first popped into the bank to post a cheque and while I was there I asked if they had coin bags, so Simon and I can count the change jar.  The people who work on Saturday are not tellers and don’t sit behind the teller desks, but off to one side.  The girl said that she didn’t think they did since they were in the teller bit.  The guy said ‘but are they locked up?’  Girl said she didn’t think so.  So guy jumped over the teller desk and got me a whole bunch!

Then, at Clark’s, they were very on the ball, getting me one size and then the next one with no fuss and a smile on their faces.

Overall a very good day’s shopping.

*sigh* I Hate Being Stuck at Home, Waiting on a Delivery

So much for them being here first thing, since its now 11:30.  Its a dishwasher basket I ordered for the top rack of our dishwasher for nipples and sippy cup valves and the like.  I am really not impressed with City Link, by the way, if anyone in the UK is thinking about using them for deliveries.  They won’t redirect the package without repaying the shipping fee!  And the company that I ordered from is telling me if it gets sent back for non-delivery I have to pay them a £15 re-stocking free or pay to have it delivered again!

This is why I usually have things delivered to work.  There is always someone there to accept delivery, Monday – Friday, 7:30 – 5:30!  I just wasn’t sure how long this would take to deliver and was afraid it would be after I was on leave!

So shoe shopping is on hold, maybe until tomorrow, depending on what time the delivery arrives.  I may go after lunch, if the delivery ever gets here!

I Did It Again

I tripped over a curb and skinned my right knee again.  At work.  On my way to lunch.

It really hurts.  I think the baby liked it though as I got a pretty good kick not too long after!

I think its these shoes, because I was wearing the same ones last time I tripped.  They are exactly what they say pregnant women should wear, flat, good traction and ankle high for stabilization.  And yet I tripped in them.  Twice.

I have my regular Friday off tomorrow so I think I am going shoe shopping!  Wish me luck on that one, because I can never find shoes I like!

As Mentioned Yesterday

I am officially in the 3rd trimester!  And I was told to upload a belly pic or else!! (not really.  Just asked for one!)

27 weeks

I am wearing the dress that was marked £45 and rang up half price.  And the over sweater that my brother and sister in law sent me for Christmas.  I was wearing it to go out to dinner last Saturday with the husband and his parents.

Letter to My Baby – Gestational Age 27 Weeks

Dear Baby

This is it! We’re in the third trimester!!! Whoohooo!!

Mummy has been feeling a bit better this week and went back to work yesterday.  She’s still a bit blue, but its not nearly so bad as it was, which is great!

She also had an OB appointment today and got to see you!  Your head and tummy measure right on schedule  and you weigh about 1 kilo!!  So of the 21.5 lbs she’s gained, about 2lbs of it is you!

I also am told that you have begun to practice breathing and will continue to breathe more constantly!  Your brain is also developing its folds and grooves.  And you are about 24cm long.

The other big news around here is that this past Sunday was Mother’s Day.  Daddy, wonderful daddy that he is, got Mummy a card and little teddy bear that says ‘World’s Best Mum’!  He signed the card from both of you, so, really, its the first thing you’ve ever given me!  Well, not counting heartburn, constipation and achy joints :).

And the other, other big news is that today is Daddy’s birthday.  He is 35 today.  Mummy gave him a very big comic book, Doctor Who Action Figures and a video game.  You and Daddy are going to have so much fun together!

So…27 weeks…13 to go…almost here!

Love,

Mummy
