Letter to My Baby – Gestational Age 30 Weeks

Dear Baby

Well, look at that!  Truly the home stretch now, 10 weeks to go!!!

Mummy and Daddy went and bought your cot this week.  Now we just need to put it together!

This week has also seen Mummy struggling a bit with her blood sugar, which is totally to be expected at this point.  That placenta of yours is just sucking all her insulin right up, in order to keep your blood sugar under control.  Mummy has also had heartburn return worse than before.  She is not enjoying the third trimester at all right now.  But she knows it will all be worth it when she holds you in her arms.

As for you, little one, you weigh about 1.3 kilos and are about 27 cm long.  These next four weeks you will add lots of fat and fill out a lot, until you really look like a baby!  You are also being very very active.  All.the.time.  Although Mummy still appreciates that you seem to sleep when she sleeps!

Mummy and Daddy are still thinking about names.  Hopefully we’ll have one by the time you make your appearance!

Love

Mummy

It Has Become

abundantly clear to me that women must forget the ‘joy’ of the 3rd trimester in order to have more kids. Because right now? I am leaning towards this is the only time I am doing this.

I ache in places I have never before, and hopefully never will again, ache.  I can’t reach my feet to put on my shoes or slippers 99% of the time.  Last weekend’s leg shaving and toe nail clipping extravaganza?  Not gonna happen again!

Getting off the sofa requires a team effort and a strong hand from Simon.  I can get out of straight backed chairs and my office chair.  But the sofa has nothing to push against!

And the best part?

I still have about 10 weeks to go.

Eye on the prize Robyn.  Eye on the prize…

5 Day Weekend – Day 1

Plan – Lie on sofa and do nothing.

Mission accomplished. 🙂

Blood sugar has gone pear shaped right on schedule.  Not dangerously so by any stretch of the imagination, but out of the ranges they want to see.  So I’ve been on the phone a lot with the Diabetic Nursing staff.  They are really wonderful.  Always listening to my concerns and addressing them.

I know the baby is fine, since its latest trick is to stretch in all directions at once (doing jumping jacks perhaps?) which feels very weird.  But a nice weird!

I can’t believe I am nearly 30 weeks.  Not long now!!

So I Was Asked Today

If I was ‘in the family way’!  By a woman who is very very high up in an organization I deal with.  It was so cute!

Tomorrow starts 5 days off in a row, due to Easter Monday and Tuesday.  My plans?  Well, tomorrow I plan to stay in my PJs all day and doze on the sofa while watching a movie.

Saturday I am sure will be the usual shopping trip to City Centre with Simon.

Sunday will pretty much be a repeat of Friday.

As will Monday.  With maybe some baby room organizing going on because…

Tuesday is buy baby furniture day!  Simon and I have a date to go to Ikea and actually purchase the furniture we picked out a few weeks ago.  And then, since he’s off all next week, it will Simon’s job to put it together. 🙂

Sounds like a blissful long weekend to me.

Letter to my Baby – Gestational Age 29 Weeks

Dear Baby

Less than 80 days to go!!

Mummy is firmly in the 3rd trimester now and, honestly, not really enjoying herself.  She’s tired all the time, which is good practice for when you arrive, and her muscles ache.  But she’s keeping her eye on the prize, which is you!

I haven’t said anything about how hard it was for Daddy and I to have you.  You see, about 3 years ago now, he and I decided it was time to have a baby.  Only Mummy was on some rather heavy duty medication for depression and anxiety at that time and in order to have you, she needed to get herself off of it. That took a year.  And then, just as she was told ‘yes, go ahead’ she was told she had Type II diabetes.  And she was told ‘no, wait!’

So Mummy worked very hard to bring her blood sugar under control by watching what she ate, and exercising some and losing weight.  And then about 6 months after she was diagnosed she was told ‘Yes, go ahead!’ again.  And then it took Daddy and I nearly 1.5 years to finally get you started.

So every day I say a little thank you.  To God, or whomever, for letting us create you.  I love you so much already.

This week you are about 26 cms long and weigh about 1.15 kilos.  Your breathing is developing and everything!

29 weeks down.  11 weeks to go.

Love

Mummy

Major Accomplishment Of The Day…

I managed to shave my legs in the bath!  I had pretty much given up on doing so until after baby is born, but they were making me nuts.  So with much contortions and holding on to sides, I managed to shave them!  Never thought I’d feel such a sense of accomplishment from this!!

New pictures of Simon’s sister, who is due about a week before me, proves once again that I am huge.  I know part of it is because I am so short.  And part is because she started out skinny and I didn’t.  But still hard to believe we are the same amount pregnant, give or take.

New pictures up this week.  I promise.

On Shopping and Saturday Surprises…

Headed to Boots today to start stocking up on baby things.

I am concerned about skin care, as Simon has eczema quite badly and I had it as a child as well, so we are going to begin skin care with just warm water and cotton wool, no pre-moistened wipes or baby soap.  I did buy some wipes, for when out and about, but made sure they were alcohol and soap free.  Also bought nail clippers, snot bulb and some muslin squares.  Simon was a bit ICK on the snot bulb, but it is definitely a necessity!!

Then we got home and the phone rang.  It was a man delivering our new dishwasher!!  Now, our dishwasher broke about  a week ago, when the bottom spin part kept falling off!  This means the water was not shooting upwards in the correct manner.  We were told they were going to order a new part and fix it that way.  Instead, we have a new dishwasher!

Well, its not 100% new, its re-furbished, but it is new to us and works well so far!  So that was a lovely Saturday surprise.

Next week it is all hands on deck for sorting out the baby’s room.  And we are going to purchase the furniture.  Time to stop letting the room be a dumping ground for the unwanted bits and bobs and turn it into a real honest to god nursery!

This week had a bit of a farce with finding out I am aneamic.  You see, I received a letter from Antenatal clinic saying, you are aneamic, take iron.  Without indicating how much or if I need a ‘script or what. So I call the clinic.  They say call your GP.

I call my GP.  GP calls me back and says ‘but did they mention your B12 levels?’ Um, no.  So I had to go to GP’s office on Friday morning and get blood taken and now I have to wait for the results to come back, although I do have a ‘script for iron that I filled, GP doesn’t want me to take it until the other tests are back.

It is one thing that totally frustrates me about the NHS.  I see OBs and Midwives at the clinic, but I need to go to my GP for meds!  Why can’t the clinic just write ‘scripts? Its absolutely insane!  I had the same issue when I saw a psychiatrist.  Psychiatrist, who is an MD, so far as I know, couldn’t write me a ‘script!

So Much for That Theory.

So my theory that the baby would be quiet today and worry me? Yeah, not so much.  Not as active as yesterday, but still kicking away in there!

I do so enjoy my Fridays off.  Got blood taken, had Starbucks, did a bit of grocery shopping and came home.  Had lunch.  Napped.

Getting ready to make Goulash for dinner.

Just a nice quiet day, me and my baby. 🙂
