Had A Lovely Weekend In Derry…

lovely party for in-law’s 40th anniversary. Lovely boys playing together.

Each of the boys received a new toy this past weekend, which we gave both of them to play with.  Of course what they fought over was the boxes!

At one point Adam pushed his cousin, Aidan, over.  I told Aidan to go ahead and smack Adam back and leave him, since Aidan can crawl and Adam can’t!  Yes, yes, mean mummy!!

Mostly they played next to each other rather than together.  I have video and stills.

I’ll try to have them up this week.

Safely Back Home

Had a lovely visit and a very nice Christmas.  Mostly received things to make a pregnant woman pretty, like lotions and a voucher for Top Shop, who sells maternity clothes, as well as baby things.

Still have a week off until I go back to work, so going to try to start organizing the baby’s room a bit.  In-laws are giving us a rocking chair, I am so pleased.  They bought it when MIL was pregnant with Simon and it was an antique then!  Now 35ish years later, it is still in great shape, very comfortable.  And considering all of the rocking chairs I’ve seen are at least £400?  Very very happy to get it!  They will be bringing it down with them in the next month or so.

GP wanted me to try to go off my trazodone, only now I’m not sleeping again, so I don’t think it will work.  She is concerened that the baby will be born addicted to it.  I can see her concern, but I need to sleep!  I think I’ll give it a few more nights and see what happens.  I know it is the trazodone because I had actually started to sleep like a normal person before I started stepping off of it!

So I Keep Getting Asked For Belly Pics

Which I would be happy to supply, only our digital camera died on us while we were in Tuscany.

However, Simon pointed out this morning that we have a Flip, which you can pull single shots from.  So we’ll do a photo shoot this weekend and see what we get!  Because the ‘OMG how much pizza did you eat girl?’ has most definitely turned into ‘OMG there’s a baby in there!!’

In other news, 8 more hours and I’m off for 2 weeks.  During those two weeks I will be: –

  1. Going to In-Laws for 5 days for Christmas
  2. Clearing out the closet in what will be the baby’s room, to see if I can organize it better
  3. Clearing out the closet in the guest room, ditto above re organization
  4. Sleeping
  5. Shopping
  6. Eating nice things
  7. Sleeping
  8. Sleeping
  9. Running to the loo every 2 minutes

What’s everyone else’s plans for the holiday period?

I’m Feeling Much Better

Definitely going to work on Monday.

Not much going on really.  Just getting a bit bigger every day.  Went through a lot of my work clothes this week and retired them to the spare room closet for the duration.  I told them I hoped to see them again in about a year or so.  Maybe 2 years.

Looking forward to Christmas.  I am off work from the 22nd until the 5th.  Nice long break.  We’ll be in Derry for the actual Christmas holiday and then back home for New Years Eve.  Which we will spend in our usual exciting style of watching a movie.  I might even have a sip of champers.  They are now saying a glass a week is fine after the first trimester.  They will probably change their minds next week.

Going to the In-Laws for the Weekend

So probably won’t post again until Sunday.

Still not sleeping well.  Seeing my doctor today.

DFA starts his holiday today.  TWO WEEKS!

DCRF starts his after today.  THREE WEEKS!

Only one who will be around is the CEO.  I plan on getting a lot of website updates and a lot of tidying done around the office.

And of course July 12th and 13th holiday is coming up.  It is a weekend this year, so we have 14th and 15th off instead.  FOUR DAY WEEKEND! And then the week after that my cousin is here visit and I have taken a weeks holiday for that.

So should be a fairly calm couple of weeks.

Going to Derry for the Weekend

to visit Simon’s parents for Easter.

Derry (official name Londonderry) is an interesting place, a walled city, where all the violence started 40 years ago, give or take.

If you ever go, let me know and I’ll hook you up with my father in law, who is an expert in the conflict and will take you to the wall and point out to you the exact spot it all erupted. Okay, well maybe I won’t do that, because I might not actually know you in real life and I’d hate to inflict strangers on him!

Anyway, the real ongoing conflict of the city is what to call it. Londonderry or Derry. London implies, of course, English rule. This pisses some people off. Officially it is Londonderry, but some people are so opposed to the name that one of them actually stopped at all of the signs along the main road to the city and spray painted out the ‘London’. I kid you not.

I don’t really get the random acts of violence decision. I mean, okay if I kill everyone who disagrees with me, eventually everyone will agree with me. It just sounds exhausting to me, to hate other people that much. Why not have a pint and you live your life and I’ll live mine.

Obviously that is very simplified. The causes and consequences of war, any war, even the war on terrorism, are many and varied and intricate.

But why do they have to be?
