So, As I Mentioned

I was out shopping on Saturday.  And OMG the bad customer service…

Item 1 – I popped into Carlton Cards to buy some wrap for some gifts we are giving at work.  I pick out what I need, go up to the counter, where there are two women putting up Halloween items.  I stand there.  I look one woman in the eye, raising my eyebrow.  She turns her back on me.  The other woman finally turns around, says ‘oh’ and says to a woman I didn’t see, sitting on the floor ‘are you on register?’  Why the first woman didn’t tell the woman on the floor that I was there, I don’t know.

Then I am in Primark, doing my usual ‘oh look, bras and pants for £4 a set!  Buy buy buy’ and I get up the cash wrap to pay.  The woman working at the till next to the one I am at is *screaming* over at her co-worker about a dress and did they have it in her size.  When they didn’t she then said “Dammit.  I’m gonna kill you!”

So Bad Customer Service All Around.

My Theory On Why the Economy is So Bad

it because there is not one skirt length in fashion.  They, the infamous they, always say that fashion trends follow Wall Street trends.  So Wall Street is confused because yesterday I bought two skirts.  One that is just above the knee and one that is at the ankle.  Therefore, confusion on Wall Street.

As for the Spies Like Us conversation the other day…I could tell you what it was about.  But you wouldn’t like the consequences.  🙂

So, Am I Psychic?

Last night I had a dream that there was a hole in the side of the milk we just received in our grocery order.  It was a slightly strange dream (who dreams about milk?!?) not just because of the milk but because I couldn’t seem to get Simon to understand why there was no milk in the jug, even though there was this HUGE hole in it.

This morning?  The actual milk in our fridge was sitting in a puddle of milk.

I don’t actually see a hole in the jug, certainly not the great gaping hole I dreamt about, but it certainly seems to be leaking!  Its sitting on a plate now.

So, am I psychic or did I notice something odd when it went into the fridge yesterday and it took sleeping to process it?

I am voting for psychic.

Last Night Was Good Craic

Good food, excellent ceremony.  It was a lot of fun.

To answer my mother’s question from yesterday, I didn’t wear the same shoes as I wore to the wedding because I was running around all night and they were not comfortable.

And the winner of the 2008 25k Award was…

Affyon Networks – an innovative microchip deployed within internet infrastructure which replaces PC’s software security tools [Queen’s University Belfast].

They win £10,000 and the envy of all of their peers.  And help to further their business, but all the finalists get that!  Oh and a lovely trophy.

Once again the staff of NISP out did themselves (including your lovely blogger) and the evening went off without a hitch.  Some stress and drama during the day when setting up, but nothing that couldn’t be worked out, and was.

And the food was delicious!

And all the girls agree the truly Next Big Thing would be high heels that don’t hurt.  Get to work on that someone, okay?

So, Tomorrow Night

Is the 25k Award Dinner. So we’ll all be at work late tomorrow.  And then we’re going out afterward.

And if anyone can figure out, before tomorrow around 6:15p when my taxi will pick me up to take me to the dinner, what ‘Smart cocktail – ties optional’ means?  Let all the girls in my office know, k?

Personally, I am wearing the same dress I wore to the wedding last week with different shoes.

What would you wear?

I Had An Interesting Day Yesterday

I spent the day representing the Park at the Darwin200 meeting.  I gave a little talk about the Park and heard about what is planned for the coming celebrations of Darwin’s birthday next year.

I thought it might be a little boring, but it was really very interesting.  And everyone said I spoke well.  So that was a relief!

Our Trip – 13th September 2008 and 14th September 2008

So the next day was very lazy.  Lunch in the village, naps.  Time by the pool.  Just a very lazy day with not much happening.

That night there was another wedding having their reception at the restaurant of the villa, so we ordered masses of pizza and ate on the veranda.  It was fun.  And full of wine!

On Sunday we all packed up and headed home.  Simon and I have an uneventful trip back, with the exception of the delay from Gatwick to Belfast.  I think we arrived home about 12:30 or 1am.  Not fun!

As I’ve said before, immigration always causes me stress, since I have to carry two passports (my visa is in my old one and doesn’t need to be moved).  But I always approach the desk with both passports open to the right page.  On Sunday, the immigration official was impressed with my organisation!

So safely home.  Back to work today.  Back to regular life.

Now if I could just get back to Tuscany.  Like today…
